Steven Smith
Vice President of Technical Operations
Mr. Smith has over 20 years experience in satellite ground system engineering and operations, communications operations, and project management. He joined ProtoStar in February 2007 and is responsible for implementing and operating the ground network for satellite control and communication network operations. Before joining ProtoStar, he held a number of positions with Intelsat in various technical and management roles within the Operations and Engineering areas, including: engineering support for Intelsat’s communications services; management of the communications teleports and satellite control ground network; Director of Operations with responsibility for all of Intelsat’s operations and customer services; and Director of Commercial Satellite Services, providing engineering and operations services to Intelsat’s space-segment customers. Prior to Intelsat, Mr. Smith worked for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence as an electronics design engineer, followed by 6 years with RCA Ltd, as a Systems Engineer specializing in digital system design, working on contracts in the UK and at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands. He holds Electrical and Electronic Engineering qualifications from the UK and is currently studying for an MBA from Edinburgh Business School.
